IP Subnet Calculator
Calculate network details from an IP address and Subnet Mask (CIDR).
Understanding IPv4 Subnetting
Subnetting breaks a large network into smaller, manageable sub-networks. This improves performance and security. The Subnet Mask determines which part of the IP address belongs to the network and which part belongs to the host.
CIDR Notation (Classless Inter-Domain Routing)
CIDR is a compact representation of an IP address and its associated routing prefix. The notation is constructed from an IP address, a slash ('/'), and a decimal number. The number is the count of leading 1 bits in the routing mask.
- /24: 255.255.255.0 (254 hosts) - Most common for home LANs.
- /16: 255.255.0.0 (65,534 hosts) - Large corporate networks.
- /8: 255.0.0.0 (16M hosts) - Major ISPs or legacy allocations.
