Slope Calculator

Calculate the slope (average rate of change) of a line between two points.

Point 1 (x₁, y₁)

Point 2 (x₂, y₂)

The Slope Formula

The slope m generally represents the steepness and direction of a line. It is calculated as "rise over run".

Equation

m = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)

Interpreting Slope

  • Positive Slope: Line goes up from left to right.
  • Negative Slope: Line goes down from left to right.
  • Zero Slope: Horizontal line (y = constant).
  • Undefined Slope: Vertical line (x = constant).
