Calories Burned Calculator
Estimate the energy expenditure for various exercises and activities.
How We Calculate Calories Burned
We use the MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) method. MET is a measure of the energy cost of physical activities.
Formula: Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Time (hours)
What is a MET?
1 MET is the energy you burn sitting still. An activity with 3 METs requires 3 times the energy of sitting still.
- Walking: ~3.5 METs
- Running: ~7-11 METs
- Cycling: ~4-10 METs depending on speed
Why Weight Matters
Heavier bodies require more energy to move. A 200lb person burns significantly more calories running a mile than a 150lb person running the same distance at the same speed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these numbers exact?
They are estimates. Individual metabolism, muscle mass, age, and fitness level all play a role in actual calorie burn.
Does sweating mean I'm burning more?
Not necessarily. Sweating is your body's cooling mechanism. You can burn a lot of calories swimming without sweating visibly.
