The Widmark Formula
The most widely used formula for estimating BAC is the Widmark Formula:
BAC = [Alcohol Consumed in grams / (Body Weight in grams x r)] x 100 - (Elapsed Time x 0.015)
- r: Gender constant (0.68 for men, 0.55 for women).
- Metabolism: Average rate is 0.015% per hour.
Legal Limits
In most of the United States, the legal limit for driving is 0.08%. However, impairment begins much earlier.
