Wire Size Calculator

Determine the correct wire gauge (AWG) for your application to prevent voltage drop and overheating.

Recommended Wire Size

10 AWG
Voltage Drop: 1.2 V (1.0%)
Note: This calculation focuses on voltage drop. You must also ensure the wire's ampacity rating exceeds your load of 10A. Consult NEC tables or a licensed electrician.

Voltage Drop Formula

Calculations are based on the standard voltage drop formula:

VD = (2 × K × L × I) / CM

  • VD: Voltage Drop
  • K: Resistivity (12.9 for Copper, 21.2 for Aluminum)
  • L: One-way length in feet
  • I: Current in Amps
  • CM: Circular Mils (area of wire)

We calculate the required Circular Mils and find the closest standard AWG size that satisfies the voltage drop limit.
