Electricity Cost Calculator
Calculate the cost of running any electrical appliance. Enter the power consumption and usage duration below.
How is Electricity Cost Calculated?
The cost to run an electrical appliance is calculated using the formula:
Cost = (Power in Watts × Time in Hours) / 1000 × Cost per kWh
What is a kWh?
kWh (Kilowatt-hour) is the unit of energy used for billing electricity. 1 kWh equals using 1,000 Watts of power for 1 hour. For example, running a 1,000-Watt Space Heater for 1 hour uses exactly 1 kWh.
Typical Power Consumption Examples
- Ceiling Fan: 60-70 Watts ($0.01/hour)
- Phone Charger: 5-10 Watts (negligible)
- Washing Machine: 500-1000 Watts ($0.08-$0.16/hour)
- Electric Oven: 2000-5000 Watts ($0.32-$0.80/hour)
