How to Calculate Electricity Costs
The cost of electricity is calculated by multiplying the energy consumption in kilowatt-hours (kWh) by the electricity rate per kWh.
Formula
$$ \text{Cost} = \text{Power (kW)} \times \text{Time (h)} \times \text{Rate (\$/kWh)} $$
- If provided in Watts, divide by 1000 to get Kilowatts.
- Example: A 100W bulb on for 5 hours a day at $0.15/kWh:
- (100W / 1000) * 5h * $0.15 = 0.1 kW * 5h * 0.15 = $0.075 per day.
