Framing Estimating Tips
Standard wall framing uses the "one stud per foot" rule of thumb for quick estimates, but accurately calculating requires factoring in:
- Spacing: Usually 16 inches on center (O.C.) for structural walls, sometimes 24 inches for non-structural.
- Corners: Each corner typically needs 2-3 extra studs for drywall backing.
- Openings: Each window or door needs headers, king studs, and jack studs. We add approx 2 studs per opening to account for this extra lumber.
- Plates: Typically 3 plates total: 1 Bottom Plate + 2 Top Plates.
