Stair Building Basics
- Rise: The vertical distance from the top of one tread to the top of the next. Standard code is often max 7.75" (197mm).
- Run: The horizontal depth of the step (minus nosing). Standard minimum is often 10" (254mm).
- Stringer: The structural member that supports the treads and risers.
- Total Rise: Check floor-to-floor height carefully including finished floor thickness.
