How to Estimate Fence Materials
Building a fence requires careful planning. You need to calculate the number of sections based on your post spacing, which determines how many posts, rails, and pickets you'll need.
Material Checklist
- Posts: Required every 6-8 feet. Always add 1 extra post for the end of the run.
- Rails: Horizontal supports. Usually 2-3 rails per section depending on height.
- Pickets: Vertical boards. Calculated based on width and spacing. For a privacy fence, spacing is 0.
- Concrete: To secure posts. Typically 1-2 bags (50-60lb) per post hole.
